Chetumal is the capital of the state of Quintana Roo,
Mexico, located on Chetumal Bay at the mouth of the Rio Hondo River. If
one travels to Belize via Cancun, Chetumal is a "must-stop" place to
explore either on the way down or upon return. It's pedestrian friendly,
with magnificent views of the water from a park that wraps itself around
the southern and eastern sides of the city and extends all the way to
Calderitas, a resort area just north of the town.
Below is a short tour that is always growing. If you live
in or around Chetumal and would like to be added to the tour,

This exhibit of a Mayan family home is located within the
Museo De Cultura Maya. Information on daily Mayan family life is posted
throughout the display.

Located outside the Fine Arts Cultural Center down the
street from the Mayan Cultural Museum. The Fine Arts Cultural Center is
down the street from the Mayan Cultural Museum as one begins the decent
down Heroes Avenue.

This shot from in front of the Fine Arts center, but from the center
median.

Hotel Brasilia is opposite the Fine Arts Center and adjacent to the
naval building. I have not stayed here as yet, but have noticed many
renovations this year.

Hotel Los Cocos is on the corner adjacent to the Fine Arts Center. Have
not stayed here as yet, but did check it out.

Mural depicting the history of Chetumal is in the breezeway ceiling of
Los Cocos. The mural goes full circle.

Still traveling down Heroes, one encounters El Fenicio
Restaurant and Super. This is a great place to go if you're a night owl
and want to go somewhere in the wee hours. It's open-aire, has very
friendly staff, and also a tv to watch in a pinch. One note: the coffee is
reasonably priced, but refills are not free.

The Arges Hotel
is just off of Heroes to the right on Lazaro Cardenas Ave. I have stayed
here and would definitely recommend it.
This is the restaurant entrance at Arges.

Now, we'll go back to Heroes and walk down a little farther....
You've made it to the park.
