Global Concerns

Want to learn more details about specific global issue?

Here are some good starting points:

  • Global Exchange: Excellent site for education and empowerment

  • Traprock Peace Center: "...2500+ visitors daily, in a Neighbors' Network to End War"

  • People and Planet:  "UK student action on world poverty, human rights and the environment." This is a fabulous site to research and network with others on global concerns.

  • Code Pink: "a women initiated grassroots peace and social justice movement that seeks positive social change through proactive, creative protest and non-violent direct action."Buy Blue

Aren't aware of any world issues in need of immediate action?

Then tune out mainstream babble and turn on to independent media resources. Here are some choices:

  • Democracy Now: Hosted by Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez, this daily news program is broadcast on more than 300 television and radio stations. It is also available in Spanish.

  • Link TV: Link TV is an independent media corporation that presents views from many sides of various political and global issues.  This is the home of Peabody Award winning broadcast news series, Mosaic.

  • Free Speech TV: Of particular importance to USA viewers, this network's programming enlightens and motivates the independent spirit within each of us. Many issues may shock, appall, and/or win favor with you, but you will definitely gain insight on how the rest of the world views the USA and why.

  • Independent Media Center: "Indymedia is a democratic media outlet for the creation of radical, accurate, and passionate tellings of truth." This is a fantastic source of news and information.

  • Colours TV: This channel touts itself as "America's First Multicultural Television Network." I have found many of their programs to be of educational quality and also of entertainment value. Although I have some reservations about particular commercial sponsors, they deserve recognition as their programming still exceeds standards above "status quo" of  network media norms.
